RPTR 326 Canopy Tour Facilitation
Course Description and Enrollment Instructions
Adventure WV in partnership with the WVU Davis College of Natural Resources and Design, is offering a 3 credit Canopy Tour Facilitation course for Spring 2017. WVU is the first University to own and manage its own canopy tour and the first University to offer a Canopy Tour Guide Certification Class. Our goal is to train high quality guides to supply a need within a fast growing aspect of the adventure industry.
This course is designed to train WVU students who plan to seek employment or an internship as a canopy tour guide. Students successfully completing the course will be qualified to take an optional certification exam offered by Bonsai Designs Inc (WVU’s Canopy Tour contractor). This is a system specific certification that would be recognized at locations around the US, as well as a variety of local courses.
Additionally, this course offers the opportunity to earn a widely recognizable canopy tour guide certification. Opportunities to connect with regional tour operators and work during 2017 Boy Scout Jamboree (July 19th-28th) located at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jen, WV will also be available.
The course is organized as a lecture with some content taught online, and lots of hands on application. 1 full weekend field trip is required. Prior experience with activities at height (rock climbing, challenge course etc) is helpful but not required. Participants must be willing to engage in hands on learning, work at height, learning and practice in cold conditions and physical challenge!

During the second part of the semester, class will meet at the Outdoor Education Center located at the University Research Forest near Coopers Rock.
