Westvaco Natural Resource Center

The Outdoor Education Center is located in the WVU Research Forest approximately 25 minutes from campus. The Westvaco Natural Resource Center provides additional meeting, conference and classroom space.

Although programming is conducted rain or shine, our indoor “Yurt” classrooms provide a dry alternate place to learn. The Yurt can be heated in the spring and fall to take the edge off of the mountain air. The Yurt and Deck provide a perfect place to eat lunch, or process the day’s experience.

Yurt Bunkhouses and Classrooms

Yurt bunkhouses provide overnight accommodations. These comfortable structures sleep up to 12 people on residence hall style bunks and programs have access to the restroom/shower house facility.

A large part of the challenge course experience is the natural setting in which the facility is located. The high and low ropes course elements are stretched out over several wooded acres. Foot trails connect the various activity areas and wooded buffer areas separate the elements. The layout allows the facility to handle large groups without seeming crowded.
